What Causes TikTok Likes To Disappear?
Most commonly, there are only three primary reasons that can cause your likes to disappear.
Some are more common where all of your likes disappear, and other reasons are more common when it’s just a few specific videos that are missing.
In any case, let’s look over each reason in more detail, so you can take some steps to fix it.
1. The Video Was Removed For Review
One of the most common reasons that a TikTok video may disappear from your likes is that it was temporarily removed for review.
This is most common when it’s just one video that was removed from your liked videos list.
Videos are commonly pulled down to be reviewed by a TikTok moderator if they are reported, or TikTok’s automated systems believe that the video may contain something that violates TikTok’s community guidelines.
Believe it or not, this can actually happen well after it’s been posted, even after it’s been pushed out to people’s For You pages!
This is because TikTok wants to ensure rules aren’t being broken, before pushing the video out to even more people.
If a video has been temporarily taken down for review, all you can do is wait. Once the video has been reviewed and approved, it will reappear in your TikTok likes in exactly the same position as it was previously.
Of course, if the video was deleted, you will need to move onto other tactics. While it still may be possible to view deleted videos, it requires a different strategy we’ll discuss in a moment.
2. The Video Was Deleted Or Made Private
It’s also possible that the video may no longer be there, because it was been deleted or made private.
This can happen either by the creator’s own choice, or because the video was pulled for violating TikTok’s community guidelines.
Either way, you can be sure that the video won’t be returning to TikTok, and will be permanently removed from your likes list. Even if the creator were to repost it, you would need to go back and like the new video again in order to have it reappear in your likes list.
Thankfully, not all hope is lost however!

3. TikTok Is Experiencing A Technical Glitch
Finally, it’s also possible that TikTok is experiencing a technical glitch that is causing liked videos to disappear.
Usually when this is the case, all of your likes will be gone, rather than just a few of them. Thankfully, they’re not gone forever!
This bug is surprisingly common and therefore, we have a lot of information on how to fix it. When it is fixed, all of your liked videos should come back – none of them will be permanently lost.
So, I recommend trying out these quick fixes:
- Force close and restart the app, by opening up your list of apps and swiping TikTok away.
- Switching from Wi-fi to mobile data, or vice versa. This will connect you to a new internet network.
- Disabling your VPN if you’re using one.
- Restarting your phone.
- Logging out of TikTok, and logging back into it.
- Checking for app updates in your device’s app store.
- Deleting and reinstalling TikTok. Note that this will delete your drafts, however.
- Check for TikTok outages / problems using Downdetector. If other users are reporting this glitch, TikTok is likely aware of it and will fix it shortly.
Workarounds If Your Likes Aren’t Saving
If your likes don’t appear to be saving or you still can’t seem to fix this problem, there are still other things you can do.
For example, you may wish to try adding the video to your favorites instead. Your favorites are kept separate from your likes, and are usually used to find videos that you really like.
You can add a video to your favorites by tapping on the share button, then tapping on the ‘Add to favorites’ button.
Although this is an extra step, it can be a great option!
Alternatively, you could also send the video to yourself in a message. TikTok allows you to send videos and messages to yourself, so this is another place you can keep videos organized!
Of course, neither of these are as convenient as tapping the like button, so hopefully you can use the strategies above to get your likes to return as quickly as possible.
