Are you looking to make a second Snapchat account, and are wondering if you can use your same email address for both accounts?
Using the same email address is a convenient way to manage all of your accounts from one place. But will you run into any problems trying this on Snapchat?
In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know.
Can You Have Multiple Snapchat Accounts With One Email?
Unfortunately, Snapchat only allows you to have one account per email.
This is because the email is used as one identifier to help determine which account belongs to who. While multiple people can have the same display name for example, only one account may be used with each email address.
Fortunately however, there are things you can do to make things easier, even without having to create a new email address!
Let’s look into some of these now.
Use The Gmail ‘+’ Trick
Have you heard of the Gmail trick that allows you to basically have infinite variations of your email address, but only use one account?
It’s often called the ‘Plus’ trick, and allows you to give separate email addresses for different things, while all ultimately forwarding them to the same Gmail inbox.
It’s pretty neat!
To try it out, all you need to do is modify the email address you provide a little bit.
For example, let’s say my normal email address was JamesMcAllister@gmail.com
If I wanted to make a second Snapchat account, I could put something like JamesMcAllister+SnapchatAlt@gmail.com as the email address when signing up for Snapchat.
This will still work!
The plus trick always follows as a similar format:
- Your regular Gmail username comes first.
- You put the + sign.
- You write whatever you want after
- You finish it with @gmail.com
Some examples:
- JamesMcAllister+1@gmail.com
- JamesMcAllister+Snapchat@gmail.com
- JamesMcAllister+TEST@gmail.com
All of these will forward mail to the original email address, JamesMcAllister@gmail.com
Try it out! Note that this will only work with Gmail addresses, not other services like Outlook or Yahoo.
Use A Throwaway Email Service
This one’s a little risky, because you don’t actually own the email address, and you will no longer be able to access it after you finish signing up.
Throwaway or temporary email services generate an email address for you for a short period of time. They are often used to sign up for quick memberships to things you don’t really care about all that much.
Some examples include Temp-Mail.org and Guerrillamail.com
If you visit them, you’ll see that it automatically generates an email address for you, without you having to type any information in.
Then, you could simply use this email to sign up for the new Snapchat account.
Note however that in addition to not having permanent control of the address, Snapchat may block account signup using some temporary email services.
This is because they are often used for spam, since they are quick to create and spammers often create large volumes of accounts.
Therefore, you may run into some problems in the future.
Make A New Email Address
Finally, your only solution left is to create an entirely new email address entirely.
This takes a bit more time, but is much more secure if you aren’t planning on using the Gmail trick mentioned earlier.
Ultimately, using your own email will give you full control and ensure that nothing happens to your Snapchat account in the future.
Thankfully, some services are a bit quicker to make accounts on, and don’t require as many verification steps.
For example, Tutanota doesn’t require any sort of phone verification, like many of the major email services do.
Personally, I would register a Gmail account if you don’t have one already however, so you can take advantage of the + trick for future accounts.
Conclusion
Unfortunately, Snapchat only allows one account per email address.
However, there are steps you can take to make a second Snapchat account quickly, and one of them doesn’t even require a new email!
