Have you noticed pistachio Oreos can no longer be found on store shelves?

Since they’ve been gone a while, you may be wondering – have they been discontinued? And if not, where you can find them?

In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know – including some hints about pistachio Oreo’s future, as well as some alternatives!

Were Pistachio Oreos Discontinued?

Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Pistachio Oreo Thins were discontinued as of 2020, and are no longer available on store shelves.

As of this time, Oreo has made no further announcement regarding the pistachio flavor, despite the outcry from fans.

Of course, it’s possible that pistachio Oreos may one day return – Oreo has done this with other flavors in the past, so it’s certainly a possibility! We’ll talk more about this later.

Why Were Pistachio Oreos Discontinued?

Typically, Oreo has discontinued flavors due to a lack of sales.

Stores only have a limited amount of space on their shelves to devote to cookies. Stocking less profitable flavors not only cuts into this valuable real estate on store shelves, but may also negatively impact the sales of other, more profitable flavors.

After all, Oreo has had over 100 different flavors and varieties. Could you imagine if all of them were stocked at once? Finding the one you actually want would be a nightmare!

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is common in the food and drink industry, and there’s always a lot of people upset when their favorite flavor is discontinued.

Sadly, it’s a necessary evil. When a new flavor comes up, the best thing you can do is vote for it with your wallet – to large corporations like Mondelez International (who owns the Oreo brand), money is what ultimately matters.

Will Pistachio Oreos Ever Come Back?

Pistachio Oreos Discontinued Confirmation

Unfortunately, it seems like Oreo does not have any plans to bring pistachio Oreos back to store shelves.

While people have certainly expressed their disapproval at this decision, several years have passed and Oreo has not made any announcement regarding the return of pistachio Oreos.

That being said, Oreo has had several occasions in which flavors have returned more than 5 years later – though sometimes, just as a limited event, or in partnership with specific retailers.

So, the idea of them one day returning isn’t outside the realm of possibility.

That being said, if that ever happens, you’ll want to stock up! Because pistachio Oreos were surely discontinued due to poor sales numbers, there’s a good possibility they’ll be discontinued again – even if they return for a brief period of time.

What Other Flavors Have Been Discontinued?

Pistachio Oreos aren’t the only ones to be discontinued! In fact, the company has a history of introducing new Oreo flavors, only to discontinue them later.

Some other flavors of Oreos that have been discontinued include:

  • Dulce De Leche Caramel Cream
  • Cotton Candy (Though a pack is currently listed on eBay for over $7,000, if you’re interested enough.)
  • Double Delight
  • Red Velvet
  • Oreo Big Stuf
  • Cinnamon Bun
  • Uh-Oh Oreos
  • Cookie Dough
  • DQ Blizzard Creme
  • Magic Dunkers
  • Oreo Dunkers
  • Apple Pie
  • Lemon Merengue

It’s such a shame that the pistachio flavor now has to join this list!

Pistachio Oreo Alternatives

Since Pistachio Oreos have been completely sold out anywhere and are unlikely to appear on store shelves any time soon, you may be wondering – are alternatives available?

There are a few, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem like there are that many options.

The closest thing we found were Pistachio Leaf cookies, which you can view by clicking here.

Although these have a nice pistachio flavor, it doesn’t have the creaminess that we’ve come to expect from Oreos or Oreo Thins.

There are also these pistachio thin cookies, but they don’t have chocolate, and use real pistachios in place of artificial flavors. That being said, they look like they might be good with some melted chocolate drizzled over them!

Of course, the tastiest treat will come from baking pistachio cookies yourself.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, pistachio Oreos have been permanently discontinued, and it’s unlikely we’ll see them returned to shelves any time soon.

Personally, I consider this to be a real shame, as it was one of my favorite flavors outside of the traditional, normal kind!

That being said, there are some alternatives and recipes available if you want to make something similar.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and sincerely hope these Oreos are reintroduced in the future. If you’d like, feel free to share how much you want them to return through the comment form below. Who knows, maybe somebody from Oreo will read them!

In any case, I’m wishing you the best,
