With the internet growing more popular than it ever has before, it’s no surprise that more and more people want to get a website online. Whether it be for a business, or just a way to get your thoughts out there to the world, the process is exactly the same. Luckily for you, the process is actually pretty easy. In fact, you only need two things to get your website up and running.

You Need A Domain Name

First of all, you need a domain name, or a name for your website. A domain name is what people type in the address bar of their internet browser to get to your website. Think of it kind of like an address for an offline business. Domain names can be registered through something called a domain name registrar. A domain name registrar is simply a business that is responsible for handling the registration process of acquiring your domain. Prices and features vary, but essentially, all domain registrars do the same thing.

For my websites, I personally use either Site Build It! (More on this later) or GoDaddy. Why GoDaddy? First of all, they are one of the cheapest options out there for simply registering your domain. In fact, coupons for GoDaddy are so abundant, you can find plenty online simply by Googling “GoDaddy coupons”.  They are also great about letting you know when your domain name is about to expire. After all, it would sure suck if you woke up one day and found out your domain name had expired, essentially making your website inaccessible until you can renew it. Which of course, will lead to lost visitors and potential customers.

You’ll Also Need Web Hosting

You’ll also need to rent a server to store your websites files on. A domain name is useless without web hosting, and web hosting is essentially useless without a domain name, so you’ll want to get both. Think of the domain name as your address for an offline business, and the web hosting as the building in which you will sell all of your stuff. Make sense? Good.

Each web host will offer you a bunch of different features, but as long as they have a decent amount of bandwidth and storage space, you’re set. I prefer HostGator because they offer both unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage, to an extent. They also have a plan which lets you add on extra domain names, so essentially, you could run multiple websites on the same server for the same low price. If you want to get 25% off the already low price, enter the coupon code “HelpStartMySite” at checkout!
