Are you tracking your Fedex shipment, and see a message that says ‘left Fedex origin facility?’

This message isn’t very easy to understand, unless you’re already familiar with Fedex’s terminology.

So, what does this message mean, how long until you see movement, and what should you do if your package is stuck here?

In this article, I’ll be covering all of that and more!

What Does ‘Left Fedex Origin Facility’ Mean On Fedex Tracking?

Fedex Delivery Vehicle

When you see the ‘left Fedex origin facility’ message on your tracking, this means that your package has departed from the first Fedex location it arrived at.

This is what Fedex means by ‘origin facility’ – it is simply the Fedex facility in which your package first entered into their network.

Unfortunately, this means that the package is still close to the beginning of its journey – likely near the shipper’s original location.

Therefore, it’s possible that it still may take a significant period of time before it actually arrives. We’ll go over the timeline you can expect a little later on.

For now, understand that this message is entirely normal, and indicates that it’s on its way to you.

My Package Has Been Stuck On ‘Left Fedex Origin Facility.’ Why?

In some cases, it’s possible that Fedex can end up stuck on ‘left Fedex origin facility’ for several days.

This is normal, and does not mean that your package is lost. In fact, once you see that it’s left Fedex’s origin facility, you can actually feel a lot safer.

This is because Fedex has acknowledged that they’ve actually received the package from the shipper, and they have taken responsibility for it. At this point, it is very rare that packages end up lost.

What would be concerning is if it were stuck on a message like ‘label created‘, which would indicate that the shipper hasn’t actually given the package yet.

So, why does tracking get stuck on ‘left Fedex origin facility?’

This typically occurs for two reasons.

The first is that the package is traveling by ground, and there’s a long distance between the origin facility, and the next Fedex facility that the package will be scanned at.

In this instance, tracking can remain on this message for up to a few days before seeing any updates.

It’s also possible that your package already passed through another Fedex facility, but the scans were missed.

Fedex scans packages along each stage of their journey to better keep track of them, as well as provide automatic tracking updates.

However, sometimes these scans are missed, which is why your package may go several days without an update, and then suddenly pop up nearby.

How Long Will It Take To Receive My Package?

So, now the important question – after your package leave’s Fedex’s origin facility, how long will it be until you actually receive it?

Ultimately, it depends on the shipping service that was used for the package.

Thankfully, this information is available on the tracking page!

Service Used, Fedex Tracking

Under the ‘Shipment Facts’ section of the Fedex tracking page, look under the ‘Services’ subsection.

There, you will see a ‘service’ section that lists the service used. In this example, this package was shipped via Fedex Priority Overnight.

You can refer to this table for the standard timeline for various Fedex services. Note that the timeline starts when Fedex receives the package – which is even before it’s left the origin facility:

Conclusion

When you see ‘left Fedex origin facility’, this means that your shipment has left the first Fedex facility it was at – near where the shipper is located.

This means that your package is still relatively early on in its journey.

Thankfully, because Fedex now has the package, they will be able to provide more frequent tracking updates.

I hope that this article has answered all of your questions, and you’ll see more movement on your package soon.
