Are you expecting a package from DHL, and the tracking page has updated to show ‘with delivery courier?’

If you haven’t seen this message before, it can be a little confusing to understand – especially since it’s not typically a message you see with other shipping companies, like UPS or Fedex.

So, what does ‘with delivery courier’ mean, and how soon can you expect to receive your package?

In this article, I’ll be answering all of these questions and more!

What Does It Mean If DHL Tracking Says Your Package Is ‘With Delivery Courier?’

DHL Vehicle

If your DHL tracking page shows that your item is with the delivery courier, this essentially means that it’s out for delivery.

The courier (sometimes referred to as ‘messenger’) who will actually be making the delivery to your address has the item, and will be delivering it themselves shortly.

So, you can essentially think of ‘with delivery courier’ similarly to the ‘out for delivery’ message you’ll see with services like USPS or Fedex.

Note that this message won’t appear if the package is simply at your local DHL facility – it only will pop up when the final person delivering the package actually has it in their possession, along with other DHL packages that they may be delivering as well.

So, if you see the ‘with delivery courier’ message, you can be sure that it’s scheduled to be delivered soon! I’ll share full estimates in just a moment.

Will DHL Be Delivering The Packages Themselves?

Unlike USPS or Fedex for example, DHL very frequently tenders your package for delivery.

This means that rather than handling the delivery package themselves, they may hand it off to another courier who is already making a trip out to your address.

Although DHL is one of the world’s largest couriers, it’s estimated that they handle less than 1% of deliveries within the United States.

There simply isn’t a high enough volume of shipments in place, nor does DHL have the infrastructure to deliver to every address in an economical manner.

This is true in many other countries as well.

So, DHL may work with that country’s local postal service – such as the USPS, to handle the final delivery of the package.

In these instances, delivery may be delayed slightly since it must first be received, and then processed by another company.

Thankfully however, when you see the ‘with delivery courier’ message, DHL is the one handling the delivery of the package themselves.

So, you aren’t likely to experience any further delay!

How Long Will The Package Take To Arrive Once It’s With The Delivery Courier?

So, if your package is already with the delivery courier, how long can you expect it to take before it arrives?

Thankfully, not very long!

Packages that are with the delivery courier are typically delivered that same day. However, if your tracking page shows a different estimated delivery date, you should expect it to come on the date listed instead, as it will always be the most accurate.

While the estimated delivery day is easy to predict, what may be a bit harder is the exact time.

With UPS and Fedex, it’s often much easier to predict the time that the package will actually make it to your doorstep. This is because these services both provide delivery window estimates as long as you have an account with them, and the packages being delivered within one area are much more consistent.

Since DHL shipments are much less common (at least in the U.S.), the driver’s routes can be much more unpredictable.

How Late Does DHL Deliver?

Although the exact delivery time can be hard to estimate, you can be sure that it will usually come during DHL’s standard delivery hours.

DHL delivers from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. local time, on Mondays through Fridays.

While DHL can deliver on Saturdays or Sundays in certain countries, the exact delivery hours for weekend deliveries may be shortened.

That being said, it’s not uncommon for DHL to deliver packages even after 6 P.M, especially if weather conditions are harsh or a larger volume of packages are being shipped.

So, be patient and continue checking your tracking page for updates!

DHL Seems To Have Missed My House! Why?

If it is past 6 P.M. or you saw a DHL van drive past your house (but not stop), this can be incredibly alarming.

So, why didn’t DHL deliver?

There may be a few reasons:

  • It’s possible your package is on a different DHL van than the one you saw, which is particularly common in larger cities.
  • The driver’s route has them delivering your package on their way back.
  • They had more urgent, time-sensitive packages that needed to be delivered first.
  • The courier scanned the package to state they had possession of it, but it never actually got loaded into the DHL van.
  • Weather or road conditions prevented the driver from accessing your address.

In most cases, DHL will attempt to redeliver later that day, or tomorrow if it’s already late.

However, you should check your tracking page for any further messages that may indicate the issue!

Conclusion

If DHL tracking states that your package is with the delivery courier, this means that it’s about to be delivered to you!

The person actually delivering the package has it in their possession, and it is almost always delivered that same day. However, in rare cases it can take another day to actually make it to your doorstep.
