Is there someone you’ve blocked on Instagram, and now you’re planning to unblock them?
Chances are, you’ll want to do this secretly, without them ever knowing that you’ve blocked them in the first place.
So, is there any way to find out? Will Instagram send a notification, and what can be done to ensure they never realize they were blocked?
In this article, I’ll share everything that you need to know!
If You Unblock Someone On Instagram, Will They Be Notified?
Unless someone manually checks your profile and realizes they’ve been blocked, there is no way for them to tell once you’ve unblocked them.
Instagram does not send any sort of notification telling them that they’ve been unblocked, so they will only realize it if they suddenly start seeing your profile again.
Keep in mind however that certain interactions they’ve had with you in the past will still remain.
For example, their likes will still be present on your posts, and the old DMs you’ve sent to each other will still be visible.
In other words, you’re left off right where you were before you blocked them, with a few key changes.
These changes can give away the fact that you blocked them, so keep reading to find out how to prevent this from happening!
Will They Still Be Following You After You’ve Unblocked Them?
One change that will happen if you block someone, is that they will no longer be following you. This is true even if you unblock them later – they won’t be automatically readded to your followers list.
While they will have the opportunity to follow you again once you’ve unblocked them, it may cause some confusion if they visit your profile and see that they’re no longer following you.
Keep in mind that this is only one way to make someone unfollow you, which gives you some excuses.
For example, Instagram allows you to remove people as a follower simply by visiting your followers list. So, if someone were to ask why they weren’t following you, you could simply tell them you must have removed them by mistake.
That way, they can’t prove that it happened due to you blocking them.
This is just something to think about!
How To Unblock Someone Without Them Noticing
As mentioned earlier, Instagram doesn’t send a notification when you unblock someone. However, that doesn’t mean that they can’t find out!
So, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind.
First, it’s ideal if someone never realizes that they were blocked in the first place. This means that you should try to unblock them as quickly as possible after you’ve blocked them originally.
When you block someone, your posts, Reels, and Stories will no longer show up in their feed. You will no longer show up in their followers list, and they will no longer be following you.
Additionally, even if they search for your username directly, your profile will never show up. All of this can lead to someone realizing they’ve been blocked once they become aware of it.
The quicker you unblock them, the less time they have to notice that you’ve been missing.
Once you do unblock them however, you’ll want to make sure you have an excuse ready in case they ask about it.
Personally, I recommend mentioning that your account was temporarily banned or suspended. This is because it mimics the exact same thing – your profile will completely disappear from Instagram until the ban is lifted. The only difference is that normally, they would still be following you after your suspension was over.
However, you can come up with any excuse that you wish.
The point is, you want to be ready in case they come asking questions!
Instagram does not notify people when they’re unblocked, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still find out.
In order to prevent them from realizing they’ve been blocked, try to do it quickly and ensure you have an excuse ready in case they ask about it. That way, it will be nearly impossible for them to know for sure that they were ever blocked.
