One of the things that’s a little bit frustrating about FaceTime, is that Apple hasn’t made it easy to see how long you’ve been on a call.
When you’re talking with someone you like, time can fly by, and it’s easy to lose track of it.
So, you may be wondering – is there anyway to see how long you’ve been on a FaceTime call, and if so how is it done?
In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know!
How To See FaceTime Call Duration
The easiest way to check the duration of a FaceTime call is through your iPhone’s built-in Phone app. If you’re using an iPad, the same information can be found through the dedicated FaceTime app.
Both of these will contain a detailed record of all of the FaceTime calls you’ve done on that device, including who they were with and how long each call was.
So, all you’ve got to do is find the appropriate call in order to pull up the information. Note that both the Phone and the FaceTime app will show the most recent calls first, so chances are the call you’re looking for is up near the top.
To find the duration of your recent FaceTime calls, follow these instructions:
- Open the Phone app (iPhone) or FaceTime app (iPad.)
- Tap on the ‘Recents’ tab (if using an iPhone.)
- Find the FaceTime call that you’re looking for.
- Tap on the ‘i’ icon on the right-side of the screen.
- Under the section with all of the icons, look at the call duration.
This will show the total length of the call, as well as display whether it was an incoming or outgoing call.
Note that this method only works after the call has ended, so if you are currently on a call you will need to hang up in order to find out this information using this method.
Is There Anyway To See The Duration While You’re On A FaceTime Call?
Now that we know how to see the length of a FaceTime call after the call has ended, you may be wondering – is there a way to do it while on the call itself, without needing to hang up?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. Unless you hang up and look up the duration by following the steps above, there is unfortunately no other way to find out the length of a FaceTime call.
It’s rather strange why Apple hasn’t yet included a timer on FaceTime, even if you had to do something like tap the screen to bring it up. This little addition would go a long way to improving FaceTime as a platform, especially since other video calling tools already have this very basic feature built-in.
Why doesn’t facetime have a timer for how long the call has been?

I don’t like how we can’t see how long we’ve been talking during FaceTime calls anymore

It seems other people are asking for this as well, so we can only hope that Apple offers this functionality soon.
That being said, there are still a few things you can do.
First of all, pay attention to the clock when the call starts. If you can remember a rough approximation when you first got on the FaceTime call, you’ll have a rough idea on how long you’ve been on it later on.
If you talked about FaceTiming before the call started, you can also check your messages app and see when the two of you had last sent messages back and forth. This can also provide a clear indication on when the call may have started.
Finally, the last thing you can try is to open up the Clock app and visit the Stopwatch section. When your call starts, start the stopwatch. This will provide the exact length of the FaceTime call, and you can simply switch back to the Clock app anytime you want to check the duration of the call.
While it’s kind of silly that we have to use these workarounds, they can still give you a rough idea while on the call, and without having to hang up.
What Is The Longest FaceTime Call Ever?
Here’s a fun fact about FaceTime! Did you know that the longest FaceTime call ever lasted for over 88 hours, 53 minutes and 20 seconds – or roughly 3.7 days?
While surely a lot of the time wasn’t spend talking with one another, that’s still a lot of dedication to remain on the call for so long.
It’s estimated that a FaceTime video call uses around 240mb of data per hour, so that makes the total data used on that call over 21 gigabytes!
Conclusion
To check the duration of a FaceTime call, you will need to visit the Phone or FaceTime app after the call has ended.
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to check the duration of a call while you’re actually on it. However, we hope this is a feature that Apple will add soon.
