If you’re angry at someone or you no longer feel they should be allowed on TikTok, you may wonder if there’s anything you can do to get someone’s account banned.
TikTok is known to ban accounts quite easily, and even very established creators can be suspended in the blink of an eye.
So, how can you get someone’s TikTok account banned quickly?
In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know!
How To Get Someone’s TikTok Banned
If you want to get somebody’s TikTok account banned, all you’ve got to do is report their page by going to their profile, clicking the three dots in the top-right corner, then clicking on ‘Report.’
The app will then ask you to select the reason for the report. Some example reasons include ‘posting inappropriate content’, and ‘pretending to be someone.’ Depending on the option that you choose, TikTok may ask you to select a further reason that better classifies why you’re reporting them.
Alternatively if you simply want to report a specific video that they’ve published, you can do so by tapping on the share button, then clicking on ‘Report.’
TikTok will only ban accounts that actually violate their community guidelines, and even one report is enough to lead to a ban.
So, you’re out of luck if you’re trying to get someone banned who hasn’t actually broken the rules.
The Consequences Of False Reporting
You should avoid reporting people that have not violated TikTok’s community guidelines in any way.
When you make a report on TikTok, the video is sent for a human moderator to review. They will then make a decision on whether or not the video actually breaks the rules.
Therefore, each report takes up time that could be spent reviewing other videos. If you end up sending too many false reports, there is a chance future reports will be completely ignored – even if they are for videos that actually broke the rules.
It’s like the boy who cried wolf – if you report videos or accounts that don’t break the rules too often, TikTok may automatically delete any future reports that you send them.
This is just a theory, but it’s similar to how other platforms have handled false reports in the past.
Can You Report People Who Did Something Off TikTok?
We now know that TikTok will only ban people who actually broke their rules in some way. But can you report somebody who engaged in rule-breaking behavior off of the app?
For example, if you found someone bullying others on Instagram or Snapchat, could you use this to get their TikTok account banned?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. While you should certainly report these people on the platform in which the behavior occurred, unfortunately this matter is out of TikTok’s hands.
TikTok is only responsible for the content and interactions that happen on their platform. What happens outside of TikTok isn’t really their business, and they have no way to verify the authenticity of people’s claims.
Therefore, it’s extremely unlikely TikTok will take any action for activity that happens outside the app.
In fact, we’ve even heard stories of people exposing others’ bad behaviors, and getting banned on TikTok themselves for harassment. So, you’ve got to be careful!
Someone Says They’ll Get Me Banned. Should I Be Worried?
If another TikTok user is threatening that they’ll get your account banned, this isn’t really something you should be worried about.
Often times, these are just empty threats that are only designed to scare you. The other person might legitimately believe that they can get you banned by reporting your videos (and asking their friends to gang up on you), but TikTok doesn’t really work this way.
As mentioned earlier, reports are sent to a human moderator to review. Unless you’ve actually broken one of TikTok’s rules, you have nothing to worry about.
Even for videos that violate community guidelines, most often the video is simply removed, and no further action will be taken. You also have the opportunity to appeal the decision or contact TikTok support if you believe the video was removed in error.
Of course, if you believe that your account may seriously be at risk, you should immediately make a backup copy of all of the videos that you want to keep. Go through each of the videos that you’ve published and download them, then do the same for any liked videos that you don’t want to lose.
Additionally, you may wish to take a screen recording of all the accounts you currently follow, so you can refollow them if you have to make a new account.
While it’s extremely unlikely a false report will lead to any sort of ban, you should always make a backup of your important data if you actually have done something that violates TikTok’s community guidelines.
Conclusion
Unless someone has actually done something that has broken TikTok’s rules, reporting them will not get them banned.
This is true even if you get multiple people to all report the same person at once. While this may lead to the video getting removed temporarily, it will get reinstated if moderators determine it doesn’t contain any rule-breaking behavior.
