Adobe Premiere Pro has become one of the world’s most popular video editors.

From professional studios to the at-home YouTube creator, Adobe Premiere Pro has just about everything you’d need to make high-quality videos.

But is there any way to record your screen using Premiere Pro, and if so, how do you utilize this feature?

In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know!

Can Adobe Premiere Record Your Screen?

Adobe Premiere Pro

Unfortunately, the answer is no. While Adobe Premiere Pro is one of the world’s best video editors, it unfortunately does not have any native screen recording functionality built into it.

This means that you’ll have to capture your screen using another piece of software, then import the video into Adobe Premiere Pro in order to work with it.

Thankfully, there are plenty of fantastic screen recorders available, and some of them are even free!

Read on to learn about some of them, and how they may even be better than what Adobe Premiere Pro could ever offer.

What Are The Best Screen Recorders?

Thankfully, there are a lot of excellent screen recorders on the market. And depending on your needs, you may not even have to pay anything extra for them!

Honestly, some of this software has been around for such a long time, that it’s likely even better than what Adobe Premiere Pro would be able to offer at release. These companies have simply had so many customers and so much time to refine their products, that they’re near perfect.

So what screen recorder should you choose?

Free Screen Recording Software

If you’re looking for a free option, the first one we recommend is called OBS, which stands for Open Broadcaster Studio. It can be downloaded through their website here.

Put simply, OBS is extremely powerful software. Whether you’re looking to record YouTube videos or you want extremely advanced live streaming with multiple cameras and special effects, OBS is able to handle it with ease. Honestly, it’s quite surprising that it’s free, because the company certainly could have charged a lot of money for it!

The one downside of OBS is that it’s a little complicated to use. Still, if you’re willing to put the time in to learn it, it’s a fantastic option.

Convenient Screen Recording Software

If you’re looking for something quick and simple, I recommend a product from TechSmith called SnagIt.

The beauty of SnagIt is that it launches in just a few seconds, and it’s extremely simple to add extra effects to your videos – such as using arrows, highlighting / circling certain things, and blurring stuff you don’t want others to see.

This makes it a fantastic choice for those offering tutorials, as well as educators or customer support agents that want to quickly demonstrate something without having to deal with a complex video editor like Premiere Pro.

Even opening Premiere Pro can take considerable time, let alone having to save, render and export the file. SnagIt is all-around quicker if all you’re doing is creating quick little screen recordings.

Best Overall Screen Recording Software

Finally, if you’re looking for the best possible screen recorder, I recommend Camtasia, which is owned by the same company that makes SnagIt. It’s quite expensive at $300, but it also comes with a full-fledged video editor.

It’s what I personally use for my courses and I’ve always been happy with it.

Ultimately, the right choice for you comes down to your specific needs. If you want to learn more about the various screen recorders on the market (along with some more recommendations), click here!

Will Adobe Premiere Pro Support Screen Recording In The Future?

We know that Adobe Premiere Pro doesn’t support screen recording right now. But is there any chance for this to change in the future? Is screen recording functionality on the roadmap or currently being planned?

Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be the case.

Native screen recording is something people have been asking for for over 15 years. Yes, that long!

Premiere Pro originally came out in 2003, and the earlier version of the software – Adobe Premiere, came out in 1991! Kind of crazy to think about, right?

It’s unknown why Adobe hasn’t added native screen recording functionality to Premiere Pro, considering how many people want it, and how much it would speed up the workflow for content creators.

That being said, we can only hope that this changes soon. Since more people are creating videos than ever, it would really be a huge edition to the software – and put Adobe even further above alternatives like Camtasia (who has a screen recorder and editor built into it.)

Conclusion

Unfortunately, Adobe Premiere Pro does not have the ability to record your screen.

However, you can record your screen using other software and import the videos into Adobe Premiere Pro quite easily.

Although this is an extra step, it really doesn’t take that long once you get used to it. Of course, we hope that Adobe will add screen recording functionality at some point in the future.
