Did you know that it’s possible to send messages to yourself through iMessage – both on iPhones as well as on iPads?
In fact, doing so is actually quite easy.
So, whether you simply want to jot something down so you can remember it later, or you want to fake a full blown conversation, in this article you’ll learn everything you need to know.
Let’s get started!
Create A Contact For Yourself
The first thing you’ll want to do – especially if you plan on messaging yourself regularly, is to create a contact for yourself in the Contacts app.
To do this, open the Contacts app, and then tap on the plus icon in the top-right corner.
Then, add your desired name, and your own phone number.
Note that you may already have an entry in your contacts with your name. In these instances, creating a new contact with a different name will not delete the one that’s already there. If one is already present, you can skip this step if you wish.
Once you have a contact set up, open up your Messages app and start a new text conversation with yourself.
When you send a message, you will notice that you not only send it, but you immediately receive a reply back with the exact same message!
Note that the first time you send a text, the bubble may appear green, rather than blue. However, this should sort itself out by the second text.
Additionally, if you want to fake a conversation with yourself (with different responses from both the sender and receiver) – keep reading. I’ll be sharing how to do this more effectively a little later on!
Alternatively, Type In Your Phone Number
Note that creating a contact is an entirely optional step – but it can save a lot of time if you want to text yourself regularly.
Just like messaging anyone else, you can also send a text to yourself by typing in your own phone number within the Messages app.
After you send your first text, this will create a new thread that you can go back and reference.
However, if you are someone that deletes text or you want to be able to find the thread again quickly, making a contact will ultimately save you some time in the long-run.
Want To Fake A Conversation? Selectively Delete Texts!
Now that we’ve covered two different ways to actually start a conversation with yourself, how would you go about faking one as if it were coming from someone else?
If you don’t want to use any third-party tools, the easiest way to do this would be to selectively delete texts.
Because you can delete both the texts you send and the texts you receive back to yourself, you can simply delete the message that shouldn’t be there after you sent it.
Apple allows you to delete multiple iMessages at once, so this really doesn’t take that long to do.
Additionally, you can always change the contact name once you’re done if you want to make it look like the message was sent to you by somebody else.
Pretty neat!
An Easier Way To Create Fake iMessage Conversations
Although it’s fairly straightforward to fake conversations by texting yourself, the truth is there is an easier way to do it.
Fake iMessage / texting conversations have been popular for over a decade now, so there are a lot of tools designed specifically for that purpose.
One such example would be iFakeTextMessage.com, which offers a number of neat features, including:
- The ability to choose specific bubble colors (iMessage / regular SMS)
- Control over the battery level, clock, and signal strength.
- The ability to change the network / cellular provider you’re on.
- You can automatically hide the name / contact info, should you wish to do so.
- And a whole lot more!
There are also apps available on the App Store such as ‘Fake All – Call, Chat, Message’ that are equally as effective.
In fact, Fake All allows you to also fake notifications, or even chat threads on services like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger too!
So, while texting yourself can be quicker in some situations, third-party tools give you far more options to work with.
Conclusion
Sending an iMessage to yourself is as simple as typing in your own phone number or contact information when choosing who to message.
However, you will get the same exact message mirrored back to you each time you send a text, so you will need to selectively delete them if you want to create a fake iMessage conversation.
I hope that you’ve already managed to send an iMessage to yourself successfully. If you are having any troubles, let me know below and I’ll see if I can help.
Have fun,
