Did you report a post on Instagram by mistake, and want to know if there’s a way to undo it?

It can be worrying if you mistakenly report something, but the truth is you don’t have much to worry about.

If you want to know how to unreport a post on Instagram, keep reading! In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know.

Can You Unreport A Post On Instagram?

Instagram App

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to unreport a post on Instagram, unless you’ve made a very specific type of report that we’ll discuss in a moment.

The option to unreport a post simply doesn’t exist.

Even if you were able to return to the post and press on the report button again, there wouldn’t be anyway to undo what’s already been done. Instead, you’ll have to simply wait and see if any action is taken.

That being said, the one good thing about a website of Instagram’s side is that they’ve gotten really good at handling reports quickly and accurately. Unless the report has actually broken rules, it’s unlikely to be removed.

Additionally, you’re unlikely to have any action taken against your account unless you have a history of falsely reporting a large number of posts on purpose.

We’ll talk more about that in a moment. First, let’s look over the type or posts you can unreport.

One Exception: IP Complaints

Although you cannot unreport most posts on Instagram, there is one specific situation that allows you to withdrawal your report – and that is for intellectual property complaints.

For example, if you owned the rights to a photo, and requested that Instagram take it down.

If you withdrawal your complaint, the report will be deleted and the content can even be restored if it was previously deleted.

So, how do you unreport complaints regarding intellectual property? It’s actually quite easy!

All you’ve got to do is send an email to, ‘ip@instagram.com’ and explain the situation. In the email, be sure to include the report number you received when you filed your intellectual property complaint, so Instagram’s team will be able to look up the report and reverse it.

Reinstating the content can take up to 24 hours or longer in some circumstances. Additionally, not all deleted content can be restored.

What Will Happen If You Report Something By Accident

Let’s say that you reported a post by accident, and you’re worried about the potential repercussions.

Can you actually get in trouble by falsely reporting something?

It turns out that you can’t really face any action, even if you end up filing false reports.

When a report is made, the post, Reel or comment is sent off to a human moderator for review. They will then check it to see if it violates any of Instagram’s guidelines.

If the post truly doesn’t break any rules, then not further action was taken. Even if a bunch of people all report a post at once, as long as it doesn’t actually break the rules, then the poster has nothing to worry about.

However, it’s possible that if you develop a habit of falsely reporting posts, then Instagram may automatically start filtering them out to avoid wasting their time.

This is similar to a ‘boy who cried wolf’ scenario – if you make too many false reports, Instagram may not pay as much attention when you report something that actually does break the rules.

Let’s be honest – Instagram receives a lot of fake reports, simply from people who don’t agree with whatever the poster had to say.

So while an honest mistake will not result in any punishment, it’s best to avoid reporting posts on Instagram unless they actually break the rules.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse a report that you’ve made on Instagram. Once you’ve tapped on the report button, it will be sent off for review.

That being said, if you filed an intellectual property complaint, it can be be reversed by emailing the address mentioned above.

While the fact that you can’t unreport a post may be frustrating, you really don’t have to worry if you reported a post by accident.
