Are you planning on shopping at Ikea?

While known largely as a discount furniture and appliance store, Ikea actually sells some very high quality items!

As popular as it is though, you may be wondering – does Ikea take PayPal and if so, how do you pay with it?

In this article, we’ll cover everything that you need to know!

Does Ikea Accept PayPal?

PayPal is currently accepted for purchases made on Ikea’s website, Ikea.com. However, Ikea does not accept PayPal for purchases made at one of their retail locations.

While there are a few workarounds that we’ll share in a moment, PayPal is not directly accepted at the register.

That being said, Ikea does allow you to order select items online using PayPal, and pick them up at your local Ikea store. If your item is eligible, it will state so on the product’s sales page.

Thankfully, purchasing off of Ikea.com using PayPal is easy.

PayPal Payment, Ikea's Website

All you have to do is go to the checkout page, and fill out the required information.

Once you get down to the payment section, you’ll be able to select ‘PayPal’ as the payment option.

When you go to pay, you’ll be automatically redirect to PayPal’s website to complete the transaction – then redirected back to Ikea afterwards for your order confirmation.

Note that Ikea may not accept PayPal while shopping using the Ikea mobile app. If PayPal does not come up as an option, visit their website in your phone’s internet browser instead and complete your purchase there.

How To Pay For Ikea Purchases Using PayPal At Ikea Retail Stores

Ikea Store

As just noted, Ikea does not allow PayPal for in-store purchases. That being said, there are still two ways to get around that.

The first is to use one of PayPal’s credit or debit cards. This can then be swiped at the register just like any other debit or credit card.

For example, the PayPal Cash Card works just like a prepaid debit card, only it can use your PayPal balance to fund the purchase. And of course, your PayPal balance can be loaded up using any of the other payment methods on your PayPal account.

Since this works at almost every store (Costco being one notable exception), it’s an excellent choice if you want to pay with PayPal frequently.

The second way to pay for Ikea using PayPal is to purchase an Ikea gift card, which can then be redeemed and used at any Ikea store.

Ikea sells gift cards directly on their website, and if you select the eGift card option, it will be delivered in mere minutes!

Since Ikea does take PayPal for online purchases, you can buy yourself a gift card using PayPal, redeem it immediately, and use it to pay for your in-store purchase without any problems!

Can You Use PayPal Credit At Ikea?

Yes – as long as you use one of the workarounds listed above and you’re approved for PayPal Credit, then you should be able to use it to fund Ikea purchases.

For example, when purchasing an Ikea gift card, you’ll be given several different payment methods when you go to checkout with PayPal.

All you’ve got to do is select the option to fund the gift card purchase with PayPal Credit, and you’ll be able to make your purchase.

If you don’t want to pay right now but still want to plan an Ikea shopping trip, this is an excellent way to go about it!

Why Pay For Ikea Purchases Using PayPal?

Typically speaking, shoppers see two huge benefits when shopping using PayPal.

The first is convenience – especially for online purchases. When you go to checkout on Ikea.com using PayPal, all you have to do is sign into your PayPal account. You don’t need to have your card on hand, as it’ll already be saved into your account.

This makes the checkout process a bit quicker.

The second benefit is buyer protection. PayPal protects shoppers ordering goods online if their products aren’t as described or fail to arrive. While it would be best to contact Ikea’s customer support before escalating to PayPal, it is nice to know that PayPal will usually refund you if the seller does not deliver on its promises.

So, it’s no wonder why PayPal has become such a popular option for shoppers!

What Other Payment Methods Does Ikea Accept?

Currently, Ikea accepts a decent variety of payment options. In addition to PayPal for online purchases, some of these include:

  • Most major credit cards
  • Most major debit cards
  • American Express
  • Discover
  • Mastercard
  • Visa
  • Cash
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Ikea’s cards (such as the Visa Credit card, Projekt card, or Ikea refund card)
  • Ikea gift cards

Note that Ikea does not accept checks at this time.

Conclusion

Ikea allows PayPal to be used for all purchases made through their website, Ikea.com.

However, they currently have no direct way to accept PayPal while shopping in their retail stores. Therefore, you’ll need to use a workaround if you intend to pay using PayPal.
