If you’re just starting out on Doordash, you likely have a lot of questions.
One of these may be, “does Doordash have a dress code?” or, “What should you wear while dashing?”
These are legitimate concerns, and in this article we’ll cover everything you need to know about your attire while delivering for Doordash.
Does Doordash Have A Dress Code?
Doordash does not have any sort of dress code at this time. However, is expected that you show up for your deliveries looking somewhat decent.
This means that you wear clean clothes that adequately cover your body.
Tank tops and open-toed sandals are examples of clothing items that you should probably avoid. Remember after all that you are delivering people’s food. Hygiene is important, and how you present yourself reflects not only on you, but on Doordash as a whole.
Look Nice, But Be Comfortable As Well
Just because you are expected to make yourself look decent, doesn’t mean that you have to be uncomfortable.
You don’t need to be wearing any sort of button-up shirt or formal pants.
Most of your time will be spent driving in your car or waiting for new deliveries. You are an independent contractor, not an employee and you have the freedom to do this in a way that fits your terms.
Therefore, you should take advantage of it and wear clothes that you can comfortably sit in all day.
For men, this might be be a loose t-shirt and shorts/ joggers.
For women, this could be a comfy shirt and yoga pants.
There really are no limitations here. Some people choose to Doordash in their pajamas and really couldn’t care less (hopefully not the ones they wore to bed, though!)
Remember that some deliveries may be to apartment complexes with several flights of stairs. While much of the work will be done sitting in your car, you should also wear something that you can comfortably move around in as well.
As far as materials go, I recommend cotton, at least for shirts. Polyester repels water which can cause odor over the course of the day, especially if you sweat or you’re working in hot climates.
What Happens If You Dress Poorly?
As long as you aren’t breaking Doordash’s rules (such as refusing to wear a mask while delivering or breaking public indecency laws), you are unlikely to get in any trouble with Doordash themselves, even if you don’t look formally presentable.
However, some Doordash drivers have noticed that their average star rating has gone up since taking their appearance more seriously.
One Doordasher noted that transitioning to business casual clothing increased their average rating by 0.3 stars, which has helped them work towards becoming a top dasher.
While it is always a better idea to overdress for the job than to not care at all, the reality is that most customers aren’t really going to care that much.
As long as your body is covered and you don’t have food all over your shirt, you’ll probably be fine.
Don’t Forget To Value Your Time
Time spent preparing yourself to work should be valued just as much as time spent actually delivering.
You are dashing to make money, not to impress anybody. Sorry, but nobody is going to remember how wonderful you looked while delivering their food.
If you spend a lot of time putting on makeup or doing your hair before you start delivering, this cuts down on your hourly rate for no real benefit.
Preparation time should always be factored in when determining how much money you’re actually making from Doordash. If you find that you’re taking too long to get ready, see where you can optimize.
Are You Required To Wear Doordash’s Uniform?
After you begin doing deliveries for Doordash, you may be given a Doordash shirt, a Doordash hat, and a Doordash mask.
In fact, a whole host of Doordash apparel is available on their store.
Some of the offerings include stickers, hoodies, totes and even lanyards.
But are these required to be worn while you’re dashing?
Fortunately, the answer is no. You aren’t required to wear any Doordash branded apparel while doing Doordash deliveries. However, wearing attire that can identify you as a Doordash driver will make it easier for both restaurants and customers to recognize you.
The only requirement is that you wear a mask while performing deliveries and interacting with customers, but it does not have to be a Doordash branded mask.
Conclusion
Doordash doesn’t have a dress code that they enforce, and you are welcome to wear any attire that you like.
While you should always take steps to ensure you look somewhat presentable, you really don’t need to go overboard.
Remember that you’re handling people’s food, and wear decent comfortable clothes. Just don’t spend hours obsessing over what to wear.
Nobody will remember, and ultimately its your profit at the end of the day that counts.
To your success,
