If there is one blogging niche that has expanded vastly over the course of the past year, it’s making money online. Everyone is doing it – even those who are just starting their first blog. But is this actually a good idea?
The answer can be yes, and the answer could be no. It all depends on how you go about it.
First lets take a look at why this niche is so popular. First of all, the ad revenue is huge. We’re talking multiple dollars per click here – which sure beats a lot of other niches where the average cost per click can be less than 10 cents. We all want to make money online, so it’s no surprise that people would try to start a website in a niche that’s extremely profitable. Especially when they’re inspired by their favorite bloggers showing off how much they’re earning…
But here’s the problem. This niche is saturated – heavily saturated, and the competition is enormous. Unless you have something unique to bring to the table, or unless you spend a heck of a lot of time marketing your website, you’re never going to get noticed.
And here’s where the decision comes in. Here’s where you have to ask yourself, “Can I introduce something unique? Can I create something of value?”. If you can’t, it’s in your best interests to avoid this niche all together. Here’s why.
Blogging is a business. A business you have to invest time and effort into. We’re not talking days, weeks, or even months, we’re talking about years. You have to enjoy what you’re blogging about – if you don’t, you’re never going to stick around long enough to actually pull in the traffic you need and to start profiting from it. Instead, blogging is going to seem like a chore, and it shouldn’t.
So here’s what you should do. If you aren’t making money online yet, start off with a topic you’re passionate about. It could be a hobby, skill you have, or even a video game. It doesn’t matter, you just need a topic you’re experienced with and passionate about, a topic that you can write a lot of unique content on. Pull in targeted traffic, and you’ll start making money from it. Then you can start blogging about making money online.
After all, would you trust a guy who blogs about fixing computers if he’s never actually fixed a computer before? Yeah, I wouldn’t either. See what I mean?
I’m not saying you shouldn’t start a blog about blogging, or a blog about making money online. What I’m simply saying is that, you should at least be making money online before you start blogging about it. And even then, it should be something you’re passionate about.
You’ll save a lot of time and frustration in the long run.
I am with you James. When I just started blogging last year I was writing about how to blog.
Then I realized why would anybody read my blog , when I am just a newbie.
So then I thought I am not a problogger..I am kept learning things . And now after a year I write all about my real experience. This also help me come up with unique topics.
And also me getting trusted visitors…

Nice story Pritam!
We all have our own unique story and experiences – I too made the same mistake. I tried to launch a blog about blogging early on – I saw how successful other’s were writing about the same topic, and since I was interested and learning about it, I tried it. Long story short, the website failed – I found myself simply paraphrasing other people and I couldn’t put my own spin on it.
Over five years later, I launched Help Start My Site – and it’s far better than my other website other was, simply because now I have the experience. Looks like we both took the best course of action.
Thanks for commenting 🙂

Pretty funny. Same here and just decided to go the easy way and revive my old “how to make money blogging” website now that I really am there. At least I can make fun of the previous posts that had nothing to do with the concept 🙂
