Pesto is a classic Italian cuisine, and goes great with a wide variety of foods.

However, locating it inside the grocery store can be a bit of a challenge if you don’t know where to look.

Thankfully, it’s almost always found in the same exact aisle. In this article, we’ll tell you where you can find pesto, what brands are best, and even share some food ideas that incorporate pesto into them!

What Grocery Store Aisle Is Pesto In?

Pesto can usually be found in the spaghetti aisle, near other Italian foods.

Like spaghetti, pesto basil has Italian origins, and the two are typically stocked right next to each other.

Pesto can usually be recognized by the small glass jars or plastic trays that it comes in. It’s often stored on the upper shelves of the Italian food aisle, so you should begin your search there.

Note that at least one variety of pesto basil is sold in most grocery stores. So, if you are having trouble finding it, a store clerk or associate should be able to help you.

What Stores Sell Pesto?

Most major grocery store chains sell classic basil pesto, as well as other pesto flavors.

Of course, the larger the store, the more varieties you’ll likely to find available.

Below, you’ll find a list of all of the major brands that are carried at each store. Note that availability can vary between locations, however.

  • Walmart: Prego, Classico, De Cecco
  • Whole Foods: American Basil, Cucina & Amore, Seggiano, Bear Pond Farm, 365 by Whole Foods Market, Whole Foods Market

What Are The Best Pesto Brands?

Among both hobbyists and professionals alike, it does seem that most people enjoy the pesto they make themselves the best. Of course, this makes sense, as you can tailor it exactly to how you like it.

Sadly, not all of us have the time, the knowledge or even the desire to create our own. So, out of the pre-made brands, which ones are best?

Many people prefer the pesto sold at Costco, which offers an excellent taste and aroma while still remaining a great value as well.

However, as far as brand names go, the two that we kept hearing about were Prego and Classico. Mezzetta was also highly rated, with customers mentioning that had the perfect balance of basil flavor.

We recommend trying out several different brands of pesto, and prioritizing pesto that uses olive oil as a primary ingredient.

Where Is Pesto In Walmart?

Walmart offers a wide variety of basil pesto, and typically carries several varieties within their stores.

That being said, the exact aisle number you can find pesto in varies from store to store. Thankfully, Walmart has developed a solution to this problem, and all it requires is for you to download their mobile app!

Pesto On Walmart App

In the picture above, you can see a page I pulled up for Classico Traditional Basil Pesto using the Walmart app. Below the ‘Pickup Today’ text, you can see a small label that says ‘Aisle A9.’

This means that at my specific Walmart store in Omak Washington, this specific pesto item can be found in aisle 9.

When you first download and run the app, it will ask you to put in your zip code to find your local Walmart location. Then, the app will update to show you which aisle each pesto is in at your specific location.

Note that not all pestos listed on Walmart.com (or within the app) are sold at each store. Usually, you can find out which ones are stocked locally by looking at those that are available for pickup.

Is Pesto Healthy To Eat?

Pesto is a sauce that is traditionally made with basil, olive oil, garlic, parmesan cheese, and pine nuts. It is often used as a topping for pasta or pizza, along with other Italian dishes.

Some people believe that pesto is healthy to eat because it contains ingredients that are known to be good for you, such as olive oil and basil. However, others believe that pesto is not as healthy as it could be because of the high fat content, so you should pay attention to how much of it you’re consuming.

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to whether or not pesto is healthy to eat. It really depends on your own personal opinion and what you are looking for in a sauce. Like all tasty things, moderation is key.

What Are Some Ways To Use Pesto?

Pesto can be used in a variety of ways, including as a pasta sauce, on pizzas, as a dip, and in sandwiches.

One of the most popular ways to use pesto is as a pasta sauce. It can be used with any type of pasta, including spaghetti, fettuccine, and penne. Pesto can also be used on pizzas in place of traditional tomato sauce. It is also a great dip for breads and vegetables.

Additionally, pesto can be used in sandwiches in place of mayonnaise or other condiments. It is also a great way to add flavor to soups and salads.

Remember to keep pesto’s Italian origins in mind – and try it out with your next Italian-themed dish!

Conclusion

Pesto is most commonly sold in the spaghetti aisle, near other Italian foods.

Although pesto comes in many different varieties, most grocery stores sell at least one brand of pesto basil.
